Bill Potter and Jim Truman, the show's promoters and leading performers, must sell off the theatre troupe's assets to pay the actors after the box-office manager steals all the money. They use the remaining funds to open a bookie's stall in London, taking bets on greyhound racing. However, they lose money due to false inside information and are forced to sell everything, leaving only a greyhound puppy. Bill decides to train the puppy for racing, but his fortunes take a turn for the worse as he faces imprisonment and other challenges.
