Abel Tiffauges, a Frenchman with a peculiar affinity for children, is wrongly accused of child molestation and conscripted into the German army during WWII. After being captured, he finds himself in Kaltenborn Castle, an elite training camp for German boys, where he takes on a menial role. Despite his initial intentions to protect children, Abel becomes complicit with the Nazi regime, capturing local boys to supply the camp.
