In 1941 Ireland, a small IRA cell is recruited under the weak leadership of Don McGinnis, who seeks to prove himself through violence despite his physical limitations. The group's new recruit, Dermot O'Neill, is torn between his desire to free Ireland from British rule and his doubts about the morality of the means.
