In "The Mill on the Floss", a wealthy mill owner's children, Tom and Maggie, navigate their relationships and family drama in 19th century Lincolnshire. Tom's feud with the Wakem family, who are in debt to his father, escalates and ultimately leads to tragic consequences. As Maggie grows up, she becomes torn between her love for Philip Wakem, who is lame, and her loyalty to her family, while Tom tries to restore the family's fortunes and stop their romance. Meanwhile, a new suitor, Stephen Guest, enters the scene, causing a chaotic and disastrous collision of romance, family pride, and deception.
