A young girl asks her mother to tell a story about a knightess, Lady Eleanor, who lives in 14th- or 15th-century times. Lady Eleanor, with the help of her friend Gwenyth, tries to save a midwife from execution, while facing suspicion and danger herself. As Eleanor's own pregnancy progresses, she must confront her fears about childbirth and the future of her child.
