In the late Ming Dynasty, a heroic swordsman named Lu Fang returns from battle to find poor farmers kidnapping a ruthless magistrate's daughter. Lu joins their cause, learning it's a desperate act to improve their miserable living conditions and high taxation. The magistrate hires bandits, assassins, and a fighter named Huang Liang to retrieve his daughter. Huang recognizes Lu from past battles and joins him against the hired mercenaries. After the standoff, Lu convinces the magistrate to punish himself instead of the farmers. However, Lu discovers he was lied to and teams up with the magistrate's daughter, a peerless fighter, and Huang to escape, recover the petition, and bring relief to the suffering town.
