The movie follows Barry Saunders, a society scion, and his friend Oliver Goodwin as they travel to Santa Barbara, where Barry falls for a mysterious singer named Mitzi Martos. As they try to find Mitzi, they become entangled in a series of misadventures, including a stolen shoe wardrobe and a fake marriage. With the help of a house detective and Mitzi's agent, they eventually convince Mitzi to marry Barry, but not before her mother tries to arrange a marriage with another man. In the end, Barry's mother reveals that he is actually thirty, and he can marry Mitzi without losing his inheritance.
