In the dying old west of 1909, a young Chemehuevi woman named Carlota falls in love with Willie Boy, a long distance Desert Runner. However, their love is forbidden by Carlota's father, a local tribal leader, who refuses to accept their relationship. When Carlota's father accidentally dies, the couple flees to the Mohave desert, pursued by a sheriff and two Native American trackers seeking justice.
