The Invisibles background

The Invisibles

The film "The Invisibles" tells the stories of four young people who lived in Berlin during World War II and learned to conceal their Jewish identities in order to survive.

In February 1943, Berlin was declared "Jew-free" by the NS regime, but 7,000 Jews had already gone into hiding. Almost 1,700 would survive the war in Berlin. The Invisibles tells the stories of four of these survivors: Hanni Lévy, a 17-year-old who has lost her parents and blends in with her blonde hair; Cioma Schönhaus, a forger who saves dozens of lives; Eugen Friede, a resistance fighter; and Ruth Arndt, who pretends to be a war widow to serve black-market food to an NS officer. The film combines dramatic re-enactments with interviews from the actual people whose stories inspired it, creating an intense and emotionally moving feature film.
