A leader among the natives on a South Seas island, Terangi is sentenced to forced labor after defending himself against a racist Frenchman. Despite his captain's efforts, Terangi's sentence is increased with each failed escape attempt. Eight years later, he breaks free and returns to his island home, only to face a devastating hurricane threatening the community.
