The Harlem Globetrotters owner, Abe Saperstein, signs Billy Townsend, an All-American, to join the team, with the condition that he completes his education first.

Abe Saperstein signs Billy Townsend, an All-American basketball player, to join the Harlem Globetrotters. Billy quits college to pursue his basketball career, becomes the team star, and gets married in secret. He's injured, causing the team to lose a crucial game, and is subsequently fired. Billy signs a lucrative contract with another team, but after a heart-to-heart with his wife, he asks to rejoin the Globetrotters, invalidating his big-money deal.
