A struggling actress, Paula McFadden, is nearing the end of her career at 36. She had been in a relationship with an actor, Tony DeSanti, but he leaves her for a European film opportunity, subletting their apartment to Elliot Garfield. Despite her initial dislike of actors, Paula's daughter Lucy takes a liking to Elliot, and Paula finds herself torn between her resentment and Elliot's charming nature.
