The Good War background

The Good War

An Italian prisoner of war is left alone in a Texas camp during World War II's final days, at the mercy of the camp's commander, who is the only soldier remaining to guard the only prisoner until a patrol force arrives, potentially never to come.

Italian World War II prisoners of war, detained in US camps, face a desperate situation in January 1946. As one of over 50,000 POWs, Luca Zingaretti stars as a prisoner who returns from an escape attempt only to find the camp evacuated. Colonel Gartner, played by Roy Scheider, is forced to keep him captive, but with no reinforcements arriving, the two men are left stranded, cut off from the outside world.
