After WW II, a former sailor, Lon Evans, returns to his Wyoming ranch, facing the prospect of eventual blindness. He discovers a beautiful white stallion named Starlight, but his cowhands deem it untrainable due to its aggressive nature. Determined to prove them wrong, Lon trains Starlight to serve as his guide, preparing for his future blindness. Meanwhile, he falls in love with Jeanne Barton, who's staying at a nearby dude ranch, but fearing his condition, he decides against marrying her and keeps his distance. Tragedy strikes when a wild black stallion kills Lon's pinto stallion in the corral.
