A ventriloquist's murder sets off a chain of events, prompting a resourceful little person to disguise himself as the ventriloquist's dummy to solve the crime.

A murder mystery takes place at a London music hall, featuring a cast of real music hall stars playing themselves. The ventriloquist act is murdered, and a clumsy detective, Claude Hulbert, investigates the crime. As he searches for the killer, he uncovers a web of suspects and motives, including a currency counterfeiting scheme linked to a mysterious Mr. Harriman. The murderer is eventually revealed by the ventriloquist's dummy.
