Amateur detective Father Ignatius Brown defies his Bishop to transport a holy relic from his church to Rome, rather than following elaborate plans. On the channel crossing, he becomes suspicious of a fellow traveller, Mr. Dobson, who is revealed to be Gustave Flambeau, a professional art thief and expert at disguise. Brown decides to save Flambeau's soul rather than putting him in prison and sets a trap with the help of Lady Warren, realizing his work is just beginning.
The Detective
