In 1880 New Mexico, a young female doctor from Boston, Dr. Julia Garth, arrives in Santa Fe to establish her medical practice, facing resistance from the community due to her gender. She must prove herself as a capable and trusted physician to gain respect and confidence. Meanwhile, she develops a romance with Dr. Rourke O'Brien, who initially dismisses her competency but secretly falls in love with her. However, her brother's troubles, including accusations of cheating and theft, lead to his disappearance and the townsfolk's anger towards Dr. Garth, forcing Dr. O'Brien to step in to save the day.
