Kansas, 1868. A wagon train is attacked by the Lakota Sioux, led by the young warrior Tokalah. Anna Brewster-Morgan and her friend Sarah are on the wagon train, and when Tokalah notices Anna with a Bible, he sees it as an omen. Despite killing the other passengers, Anna and Sarah are allowed to continue their journey. The next day, they're kidnapped by Tokalah. Initially terrified, Anna eventually falls in love with the noble Tokalah. After a year, Sarah is returned to her people, and Anna must decide between her new life with Tokalah and her previous marriage to Daniel Morgan.
