Allan Martin, a documentary filmmaker, works at a low-budget cable station in New York City. He's determined to find his perfect match, evaluating potential partners based on their suitability as a wife. His best friend, Brian, shocks him by breaking up with his girlfriend to pursue casual sex. Allan becomes fixated on Maria Giannini, his ideal woman, but their paths keep crossing at inconvenient times.
