A young Jewish woman navigates the challenges of city life in pursuit of love, fulfillment, and a sense of belonging.

Sheila Levine, a bright and innovative introvert from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, moves to New York City with her parents and finds a new roommate who drags her to a nightclub. There, she meets a doctor named Sam Stoneman, who seems interested in her roommate, but Sheila develops strong feelings for him. After returning to Harrisburg and coming back to New York, Sheila discovers that Sam is engaged to her ex-roommate. Meanwhile, she excels in her job as an office singer and typist for a record company.
