During the Austrian-Prussian War, a famous ballerina named Anna Maria is accused of being a spy and flees to the United States with the help of an American war correspondent. They settle in a small Arizona town where Anna's performance in "Salome" captivates the locals, earning the town the name "Salome, Where She Danced." Anna falls in love with a local bandit who resembles her deceased lover, and the group eventually moves to San Francisco where Anna attracts the attention of a wealthy Russian colonel who builds her a new opera house. However, a Prussian nobleman arrives, seeking to take Anna back to Europe.
