Riding Uphill is a story about professional bicycle racing in Kitakyushu's Kokura, where betting is allowed. The film follows the struggles of men living on the edge as they attempt to achieve their dreams. Director Kan Eguchi, a successful film director and Cannes Lions winner, makes his feature film debut. The main actor, Kenichi Abe, a 42-year-old man, was inspired by his father's Keirin racing background and once aspired to be a professional Keirin racer himself.
