A struggling bandleader makes a deal with a pawnshop clerk who is also a songwriter, agreeing to let the band's female singer perform the clerk's songs at a local club in exchange for the band's instruments being released from pawn.

A struggling bandleader strikes a deal with a pawnshop clerk, a budding songwriter, to perform his songs at a local club in exchange for the use of their instruments. But when the clerk's girlfriend becomes suspicious of the band's singer, tensions rise and a web of deceit is spun.
