Aging champion hydroplane racer Pop Gunner prepares for his last race, while his nemesis Gregg Stevenson, the current champion, pursues a romantic affair with Pop's daughter Linda. As the Grand Prix begins, Pop and Gregg engage in a high-stakes competition, but Gregg's reckless behavior leads to a fatal accident that kills Pop.
