Reporter Steve Hurley's life is turned upside down when Crystal McCoy, the star of a burlesque show, is replaced by her predecessor Dolly Devoe. Crystal is unhappy about the change, as is show manager Joe Nolan, who has feelings for her. The tension between the characters escalates when Dolly's day takes a turn for the worse, and she is found dead in a dressing room trunk. As the investigation unfolds, Inspector Crowley suspects multiple people, including Chick, Crystal, and Annie, the wardrobe woman. The list of suspects narrows when Lola and Blossom are found dead, and Annie is eventually revealed to be the killer.
