Marianne Jannetier, a wealthy Parisian, escapes the city with her fiancé Andre Benoit, a government official, as German forces arrive. After her mother's death from German bombing on the road to Bordeaux, Marianne returns to Paris and joins the resistance movement. She meets Nicholas Jordan, an American RAF member stranded in Paris, who is also working with the underground. Marianne kills her former fiancé, a pro-German informant, for the treasonous documents he carries, and she and Jordan try to escape through a French port.
