My Sweet Orange Tree

José Mauro de Vasconcelos, a writer, receives a published edition of his novel, marking the beginning of a nostalgic journey through his memories, told through vivid flashbacks.

Zezé, an 8-year-old boy, lives in a humble house with his family in Minas Gerais. Despite facing difficulties and aggression from his father and school peers, Zezé has a remarkable talent for storytelling using his imagination. When his family moves to a new home, Zezé befriends an orange tree and becomes embroiled in various misunderstandings, including a failed attempt to ride the bumper of Manoel Valadares, a local resident known as "Portuga".
