My Own Mecca

A young man, Dre, navigates his day-to-day life in Oakland, California, contorting into different versions of himself to cope with his world. As he prepares to move to a new location with his wife, they struggle to find affordable housing in the Bay Area. When Dre's friend Walt asks for a ride to a motel, Dre is tempted to sell cocaine to help with his financial needs, but ultimately decides against it. Walt leaves a baggie in Dre's car, leading to increased anxiety and paranoia. Dre must carefully avoid getting entangled in his friend's situation and also navigate a run-in with a local police officer, all while trying to escape his current reality.
