My Best Girl background

My Best Girl

A young stock girl at a department store finds herself smitten with a co-worker, the son of the store's manager, who is struggling with his own feelings amidst his engagement to a high-society debutante and his desire to make a name for himself independently of his father's influence.

Joe Merrill, a wealthy heir, disguises himself as Joe Grant and takes a job in his father's 5-and-dime store to prove his worth. While working in the stockroom, he meets Maggie Johnson, and they develop a romance, complicating his plans as his mother had intended for him to marry Millicent Rogers, a high-society woman.
