Barry Webster, a bank teller, turns to embezzlement under the pressure of his mother-in-law, who relentlessly criticizes him for his wife Muriel's impoverished lifestyle. His actions ultimately lead to his imprisonment, where his mother-in-law's manipulation of Muriel continues.

A struggling bank teller is pushed to theft by his mother-in-law's relentless nagging about his wife's poverty-stricken lifestyle. After being caught and imprisoned, his mother-in-law orchestrates a divorce and a marriage to a wealthy industrialist, only for Barry to reunite with his wife behind her back. When the husband discovers them, a fatal shot rings out, and Barry and his wife are framed for the murder.
