Nikolai "Montana" Umansky, a former gangster, is released from jail and invited to Moscow by his friend Viktor, a wealthy businessman. Viktor asks Nikolai to complete a task in the US, which turns out to be a setup. Nikolai escapes and flees to the state of Montana, where he meets a young divorced woman and her child, and experiences love and happiness for the first time. However, his criminal past continues to haunt him, and the Russian mafia is hot on his heels.
