A Hollywood director, struggling with a failing marriage and impending divorce, escapes to the Mojave Desert to clear his mind. However, his solitude is disrupted by a chance encounter with a sociopathic drifter, who later discovers the director's identity and begins to torment him with threats against his loved ones. As their cat-and-mouse game unfolds, a third party is accidentally killed, and each man tries to frame the other for the crime. The standoff culminates in a poetic showdown, with only one man left standing.
