A desperate fugitive, Martin Stechert, takes a 12-year-old boy hostage after escaping from prison. The boy, also named Martin, is a quiet and obedient child who has faced loneliness and frustration in his life. As they flee, the boy begins to admire Stechert's rebellious spirit and determination to achieve his dreams. Despite the danger, the boy chooses to stay with Stechert, and they eventually make their way to Stechert's childhood cabin by a lake. However, the police are hot on their heels, determined to capture them.
