Jo March and her husband Professor Bhaer run a school for underprivileged boys, where they take in Dan, a rough-around-the-edges city kid. Despite his tough exterior, Jo is drawn to Dan and stands up for him when he's wrongly accused of theft. Meanwhile, Dan's foster father, Major Burdle, is a shady character teaming up with a sly partner, Willie the Fox, to devise a plan to save the school from foreclosure.
