Dawna Wilkins, a strong and self-made woman, raises her daughter Emily on her own and becomes a respected museum head. She meets John Collins, an anthropology professor, who helps her authenticate Incan artifacts and accepts Emily into his class. Despite Dawna's attraction, John sees her as a friend. When Emily goes missing and is later found murdered, John supports Dawna through the tragedy. The police suspect Keith, Emily's ex-boyfriend, of the crime, but Dawna must pay attention to her surroundings to avoid a similar fate.
