In 1938, a centuries-old feud between the Dillons and Goodwins in Kentucky comes to a head. Jack Dillon, who refuses to follow in his father's banking footsteps, takes a job as a stable trainer under an assumed name at Sally Goodwin's stables, and they begin a romance. However, their love is threatened when Sally's father dies, leaving the family in debt and forcing them to sell their estate and horses at auction. A cryptic note reveals a secret wager between the two families, allowing the Goodwins to claim a horse from the Dillon stable, complicating Jack's true identity and their budding relationship.
