Kenny Delmar stars as Senator Beauregard Claghorn, a Southern character from Fred Allen's radio program, known for his intolerance towards anything north of the Mason-Dixon line. Claghorn gets into financial trouble and is forced to run for state senator against his wife, Una Merkel, who has a good chance of winning. However, Claghorn unexpectedly runs a campaign to win, which puts him at odds with a machine-political gang that wants him to lose.
