To provoke a response, Stevenson's men sabotage ranches, making it appear as if the Army is responsible. This ploy aims to prompt the Army to increase their bid to avoid conflict. Meanwhile, Gene is sent to investigate the situation, but as the deadline for eviction approaches, the ranchers prepare to take a stand against the Army.
