A teenage girl named Robyn from the planet Taros, where her people have been hiding on the Moon, becomes impatient and decides to take matters into her own hands. She, along with her friends Tavy and Kirbi, a furry tripod creature, stow away on a mission to Earth and manage to sneak away. They find refuge with a Wyoming rancher's son, who hides them at his open-minded grandfather's house, while his parents host a senatorial campaign barbecue.
