The Germans are coming to inspect the island of Paladiki, where a credit granted years ago by the AVO-Bank is about to expire. Jörg Geissner, a bank employee, suspects that the registered securities, a hospital and power generating plant, do not exist. As he searches for proof, he is met with resistance from the Greeks, who will stop at nothing to keep the truth hidden. Meanwhile, the island's mayor, Spyros, frantically tries to create a makeshift power plant, while Geissner and a charming local, Panos, form an unlikely bond.
