In 1969 West Bengal, Geeta Rao is torn between her two suitors, Siddharth Tyabji and Vikram Malhotra. As the region struggles against the ruling Congress party, Siddharth is directly involved in the fight, while Geeta and Vikram's romance blossoms. However, when Vikram fails to propose, Geeta gives up on him and he begins a new romance. Meanwhile, students protest against Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, who responds by declaring a state of emergency, suspending civil liberties and imprisoning political leaders. Vikram's father is arrested, and Siddharth goes into hiding. As Vikram becomes entangled in the struggle, he must confront the harsh realities of the emergency and its impact on his family and loved ones.
