The story follows Mama Rose, a determined mother who invests her hopes and dreams in her daughter June's Broadway success, initially through vaudeville. When June leaves to start a family, Rose shifts her focus to Louise, her older daughter, who lacks June's talent. Despite this, Rose pushes Louise to become a star, initially envisioning a career on the legitimate stage, but ultimately settles for Louise headlining as a stripper at Minsky's Burlesque.
