In the Arizona desert, a stagecoach is ambushed, and a passenger, Mr. Jefferson, saves the life of the injured guard, Ed Stewart. However, Jefferson's true intentions are revealed when he confesses to Juan Morales, a Mexican he had picked up on the trail, that he was behind the robbery. Juan is forced to take the payroll money and escape with Jefferson's accomplices, Loder and Scully.
