In the abandoned mining town of Stillwell, Tex Williams and his sidekicks stumble upon a mail stage and discover the bullet-ridden bodies of the guards. They soon find the town occupied by Brady and his henchmen, who have stolen a crucial letter intended for the town's owner, Easterer Ruth Gordon. Brady plans to buy the town at a tax foreclosure and start a fake gold boom, but Tex decides to thwart his scheme by paying Ruth's taxes at the county seat. Upon his return, Tex finds Brady and his gang barricaded in the town, leading to a shootout.
