A man, Leland Bruce, flees to the redwood country after being charged with murder for killing in self-defense. He finds refuge with a trading post owner, Sandy McTavish, and his niece Lynn. The trappers are fighting against timber barons who are destroying the forest and driving away the wildlife. Lee is asked to deliver a petition to the Governor to stop the timber barons, which would put him in danger of being arrested.
