A shy 15-year-old girl, Alice, finds solace in her diary after her family moves for her father's new job. She befriends another outsider, Beth, but their bond is severed when Beth leaves for camp. Alice is drawn to the popular crowd, who introduce her to drugs, which make her feel less inhibited and thrill her to be involved with a college student. However, she becomes addicted, using uppers to cope with her parents and sleeping pills to come down from highs. As her addiction worsens, she's forced to push drugs to support her habit, ultimately realizing she's on a downward spiral. With help from a priest and psychiatrist, Alice must overcome her addiction and confront her past, including her old friends.
