Jockey Snapper Sinclair, son of a notorious crooked jockey, is taken in by Patricia Barrington, who recognizes him as the son of a man who helped her father's stables succeed. Snapper has a successful career, riding a fast but unruly horse named Faithful to victory in the Kentucky Derby, but is later suspended from racing in the US after refusing to cooperate with gamblers. He moves to London, where he continues to ride, but is torn between his loyalty to a maharajah and his gratitude to Patricia, who is struggling financially and needs to win a race to get back on her feet.
