In mid-19th century New York City, a talented street performer named Dimples lives with her pickpocketing grandfather in the Bowery. She's hired to perform at a party and charms everyone, including a theatrical producer and his aunt. She's offered a role in a production of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and gets to live with her benefactors in a luxurious home. However, she ultimately decides to return to her grandfather and Mrs. Drew convinces him to give her a better life. The story ends with Dimples performing in a minstrel show.
