Kate Sanders, a widow, lives on her family's farm in Georgia with her daughter Alex, where they face daily challenges. The arrival of combat dog Dakota, delivered by Sergeant CJ Malcolm, fulfills a promise to Kate's late husband and becomes a local hero. As Kate divides her time between the farm and the volunteer fire department, Dakota watches over the family and helps out around town. However, the local Sheriff seeks to exploit the farm's value and will stop at nothing to acquire it.
