Two producers, Hank and Ace, are staging a play to promote Texas, backed by wealthy patrons. The star, Babs Lee, threatens to quit if they exploit her personal life again. Meanwhile, the play's ticket sales are struggling due to conflicting events on the same night. Songwriter Bob Allen proposes a solution: they hire someone to pretend to be a wealthy Texan who has fallen for Babs and bought all the tickets for the first week, causing a series of complications.
